Sales Tax in Nova Scotia

I am looking the amount of the amount of sales tax paid on my eligible business expenses for GST/HST returns.  I set the sales tax settings to Nova Scotia (15%) and put it into the detailed tax report report... however, I am now checking over the report  using a reverse sales tax calculator & all of it is coming out to lower than 15%

a limit or percentage of how much gst/hst businesses can claim back on exspenses? Maybe that’s why it’s set up at a lower percentage?

Hi Jessicav123.

Having the right sales tax added to sales and purchases is a great way to make sure when you file with the government it goes smoothly. I'd be happy to help you with this.

QuickBooks Self Employed edition makes tracking your sales tax easy by doing the calculations for you automatically. When you enter the sales tax code on an invoice or bill it'll add the full percentage of that tax code to the invoice. I recommend making sure your sales tax codes are set up correctly if they are taking off a different percentage. You can set up your sales tax by following the steps in this article. Another thing to make sure of is that the sales tax codes for the items are the correct ones when you assign them.

If everything is set up correctly and the sales tax is still not working as it should I recommend clearing your cache and cookies and opening QuickBooks in a private browser such as Google Chromes incognito mode.

If you have any questions let us know and we'd be happy to help!
