Question

Something seems to be wrong because whenever I am checking off my business income as "business income" my business income number and business profit number aren't changing.

Hello theklaycollectio,

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. It's vital that when you're entering and saving transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed that the program is reflecting those numbers, and I'm here to help make sure that's happening.

When working with your entries and the reporting in the program, one of the key things to pay attention to is the date. If the date of the transaction is outside of the reporting period you're working with, it wouldn't be reflected in that timeframe. For a report like the Profit and Loss report, you can choose the tax year you're working with before running the report and even set a custom date range if that better suits your needs.

For the tiles on the Home tab when using a browser, make note of the drop-down menus on each one and make sure that it's set to capture the data for the period you're looking for with the transactions in question. The Business Profit on the Transactions section is set to show the last 12 months by default and cannot be changed, so that's also good to keep in mind.

If you're certain all your dates are lining up as they should be and you're still not seeing the change in numbers after saving the transactions, I recommend troubleshooting your browser or mobile app. If you're working with a browser, clear the cache or try a private browser window to see if the numbers are still unchanged. The Clear cache and cookies to fix issues article can help you with that if you're not sure how. The article is tagged for QuickBooks Online, but it's the browser troubleshooting you'll be working with, so you can still use these steps. For the mobile app, I recommend uninstalling and reinstalling it to be sure that the information is up-to-date.

If that's still not making a difference, the next step is to work directly with the QuickBooks Self-Employed team outside of the QuickBooks Community. With a one-on-one conversation, you and the member of our team can work together to figure this out and get you back on track. Here's how to get in touch.

  1. Select the Assistant feature.
  2. Type and enter "talk to human" into the chat window.
  3. Follow the prompts.
