Hi user97408,

Entering your transactions into your QuickBooks Online account is the key to keeping accurate books. I can go over closing dates so you can enter your transactions and get back to business.

QuickBooks Online makes setting up your year ends and closing them easy to help keep your accounts accurate. When a closing date is set it warns you when you try to enter a transaction during that time. This is due to year end filings and reconciled time periods being affected if you enter information for that time period. In order to check when your books were closed you'll need to make sure you are logged in as the primary admin or the company admin. If you're set up as one of these two you can check using the following steps.

  1. Go to Settings ⚙ and then select Accounts and Settings.
  2. Select the Advanced tab.
  3. Select Edit ✎ in the Accounting section.

Under the option for Close Books there will be a date that the books are closed up to. If this was done in error or the incorrect date was set you can change it by changing the date in the box. I'd recommend speaking with the person that set it up prior to changing it in order to make sure it does not affect your books. Once it's changed you'll no longer get this error going forward.

If you have any further questions don't hesitate to reach out and we'd be happy to help!

Have a great one!
