Hi there amayer02,

It's important for your taxes to be well tracked so that you can easily remit to the government. QuickBooks Online is a great tool that tracks the amount of taxes on each transaction so that you can easily see your numbers for your tax filings. I can provide you with information about sales tax accounts as well as payroll remittances.

In QuickBooks Online, sales tax collected on sales and paid on purchases both go to the same account, the Sales Tax Payable account. The amount will affect specific lines in your return filing in the tax center based on the tax code you chose, but the entirety of the taxes collected will go to the same account. There isn't a way to map ITC's to one account as well as the tax collected on sales to another separate account. I can see how having this in different accounts would make it easier for you to see the separate amounts in your chart of accounts. I recommend you leave feedback by clicking on the Gear Icon, then Feedback. Comments made in this section are taken into consideration by our developers when designing new features for QuickBooks Online. I'll pass this feedback along on my end as well.

The mapping of your chart of accounts for payroll can be modified by navigating to the Gear Icon, then Payroll settings. Select the Accounting option located under the preferences, and you can select new accounts to affect in your chart of accounts.
