Hello ingrid5,

It's great to hear that you've been using QuickBooks Desktop and are now looking to move to the Online platform. I can absolutely help make sure you get sorted out with moving your data from one version of QuickBooks to the other.

It sounds like you've been reading up on how to migrate the date from Desktop to Online and you've probably come across the Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online article, which is a great place to start. The reason you're not seeing the options outlined there is because of the age of the version you're using.

Since QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2011 is an older version of the program, it means taking some extra steps before being able to move your data to QuickBooks Online. I have a couple of options that I'll outline. Before doing these, I recommend creating a backup of your company file.

Once you've done that, the first thing you can try is downloading a trial of QuickBooks Desktop 2020 to see if you can open your company file there. Typically, you'd need a 2012 version or newer to be able to complete this step, but it's still worth a shot. You can download the Desktop 2020 trial here: Download a trial of QuickBooks Desktop

If you're able to open your company file in that version of the program, you should see the Export Company File to QuickBooks Online option and be able to follow the steps in the article.

If you're not able to open the file or you still don't see the option to export, it means our support team will have to step in to help. An agent will be able to submit a ticket to have your company file sent to the Data Services department to migrate the file for you into QuickBooks Online.
