Question

We have converted from Sage 50. In Sage, the management Salaries were set to one account, the manufacturing wages to different account. Can I do this in QBO?

Hi blebookkeeping,

Welcome to the QuickBooks family! We're so happy you've made the switch to QuickBooks Online. You're going to love all that the program has to offer, especially since you're using it in conjunction with Standard Payroll. Mapping your accounts in order to customize your accounting needs is essential. I'd be happy to explain how you can assign different accounts to different employees.

In Standard Payroll, you have the option to set up a different account to map your payroll expenses to for each individual employee.

If you're trying to split a single employee's wages among different accounts, that's something I'd recommend running by an accountant first. You'd have to set up two different employee profiles for your employee, then map the wages to the accounts accordingly. It's important to speak to your accountant to figure out if this is a good method for your accounting. If you're not yet connected to an accountant, you can find one in your area here: Find a ProAdvisor.

If you're simply trying to assign one account for an employee and you'd like to assign a different account to another employee, that's simple to do. Here's what you'll do:

1. Click the Gear icon

2. Select Payroll Settings.

3. Click Accounting.

4. Check off the box that says, "I use different accounts for different groups of employees".

5. Select the appropriate accounts.

6. Select OK.

I hope this helps get you on the right track. If you've got any further questions about this, please don't hesitate to reach out to our tech support team.

Cheers.
