QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) is installed on office computers and is designed for mid-sized companies, including manufacturers with large inventory needs. On the other hand, QuickBooks Online (QBO) is a cloud-based subscription service that can be accessed on any device and is tailored for smaller businesses with up to 25 users, requiring an internet connection.

You can still use an old QB Desktop with a non subscription license.
