Question

When entering a bill in QBO can I change the markup % and sales amount at the same time and have it permanently saved?

Hello,

Including a markup on a bill expense incurred by your business is a typical part of your company's sales. It's important that QBO is able to facilitate this process, and it's quite simple. I'll explain further.

In QuickBooks Online, you can save a markup % if the expense is billable. You can set this up if you have QuickBooks Online Plus. To get started:

  1. Click on the Gear icon, then select Account and Settings.
  2. Open the Expenses tab from the left sidebar.
  3. In the Bills and expenses section, activate Make expenses and items billable.
  4. Select Save, then Done.

Here's a great article with additional details, as well as instructions for including a markup: Enter billable expenses. As outlined in Step 7, you'll enter or make sure the markup % is correct, then select the Tax checkbox or choose a tax agency if you want to charge tax.

I know how important it is to be able to adjust the amounts as you go. You can edit any section of the invoice before sending it off to your customer to complete the sale.

I hope this helps answer your question. If you're in need of any further assistance, please reach out to our tech support team.

Have a great day.
