Question

When I am adding transactions from my banking download, sometimes it changes the categories in other transactions on my list not just the one I am on How do I avoid this?

These are transactions that the client has not entered, I usually enter them all from the banking module.

Hi there rpmcpa17,

it's vital for your transactions to be entered correctly so that your books are well balanced. QuickBooks Online can import transactions directly from your bank and have them ready for you to categorize. I can provide some information about the banking tab.

QuickBooks Online's banking tab will always take into consideration the transactions which you've matched in the past in order to anticipate your selection in order to suggest accounts that may be relevant for the transactions. You'll still need to select the correct transaction type and account you want to affect, QuickBooks is just suggesting based on past transactions that might be the account needed. This anticipation is not something that can be turned off, but you still have the final say as to which account this transaction will affect when categorizing.

I can see how having this option to turn off the automatic suggestion would be something that could help save you time in categorizing. I recommend you leave feedback in the system by clicking on the Gear icon, then Feedback. The comments made in this section are taken into consideration when designing new features for QuickBooks Online. I'll pass along your feedback on my end as well.
