In Canadian QuickBooks Desktop we know keeping your company information is what helps your business continue to grow. Sometimes that means the file gets to big to use but don't worry, we got you covered on this. I can help walk you through ways to keep your historical information while making the file smaller.

While the American version is the only one with the ability to condense and compress your info, the Canadian version has ways to do the same but with different steps. There are two ways of going about this. First would be to create a company based on an existing file. What this does is creates a company file based off your old company and moves over balances and lists such as customer and vendor. This allows you remove old receipts or items you no longer need while bringing over the information needed to continue your business. We generally recommend doing this on year ends so you can have a clean set of books for the new year while still having your historical data as well. This can be done by going to File>Create Company from Existing Company File. You then select the file you've been using and create a name for the new one. Another way would be to create a new company file and export the information over using IIF transfer. This will allow you to pick what comes over and fine tune what you want to see in the new company. This article will go over how to export, import and edit IIF files.
