Why does it show old transactions as if they are outstanding when doing a cheque? I have to scroll through hundreds of old transactions that should not be there.

QuickBooks Online offers a powerful platform that allows you to get a clear view of your transactions. This allows you to save time for the things you enjoy doing. I'd be glad to assist you with figuring out why you're seeing old transactions when processing a cheque. 

Based on what you've described, I'd recommend looking into reconciling your accounts. This a great way to check for errors as you verify each transaction on that account. Doing this will also allow you to get an idea of how these old transactions affect your books if you were to reconcile them or delete them.
