Question

Inventory

I want the inventory to be able to monitor the placements of tools in my workshop. For example, a toolbox came with wrench, plier and screw driver. Every morning, each mechanic will borrow a set of tools that he would use for his work and then return them in the evening. I want to find out which tool was not returned and who took it. Will I be able to do this monitoring in Quicbooks?

Your toolbox is not part of the inventory. You can use a workshop management app.

Hello there, @windigital.

I'll help you track inventory for borrowed items in QuickBooks Online.

You can create an invoice for the borrowed items then create a credit memo once returned.

Before doing so, add the items in inventory one by one with 0 amount. Then, add them as a bundle. For categorization, you can consult an accountant. If you don't have one, you can click this link: Find an accountant.

Once done, you can add the mechanic as a customer. Then, create an invoice for that customer.

After they return the item, you can add a credit note for the same customer. If there are items not returned, do not enter the bundle. Add only the items returned.

Here's how:

  1. Go to +New.
  2. Choose Credit note.
  3. Choose the Customer name
  4. Add the items returned.
  5. Click Save and close.
