Product & Service Type Change

Hi there,

My books have historically been input with products data note as "Service" and "Non-Inventory" when in fact these are physical goods that I buy/sell on my e-commerce platform. I'm planning to do a clean up to switch them back into "Inventory" and tagged with relevant Categories as well. But I wonder if this would impact any existing synchronization & historical data.

Kinda worried to make this switch but then my current books doesn't give me all the intel I need too - any advice?

Welcome to the Community space, stefy-chow.

I'll share some information about changing the product type.

When a product/service has the wrong type, you have the option to change it without affecting the historical data. Before making any changes, I recommend consulting with your accountant for advice.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the GearProducts and Services.
  2. Find the non-inventory or service item you want to change.
  3. Select Edit in the Action column.
  4. Click on the Change type link.
  5. Choose Inventory.
  6. Follow the steps to set the item up as a non-inventory or service item, or an inventory item.
  7. When you're done, hit Save and Close. In case you selected a date that used this item, you will be prompted with a message "Please select an inventory start date that comes after the most recent transaction that used this item."
  8. Select the required date and click Save and close again.

Here's a sample screenshot for a visual reference about the message:
