Question

1099 complaint. We pay contractors out of contra income accounts. QBO does not let you select accounts for generating 1099s. Why not let us pick the accounts we use.

I had to rebook all the invoices to an expense account and now I have to rebook them back to the contra income account in order to generate the 1099s.  This is silly.  Why is QBO so controlling that it does not let us pick whatever account we want income included?

Hi there, theresa.

In QuickBooks, when you generate a 1099, you can select all the affected accounts that were used on the transaction for 1099 vendors.

Also, If you paid your contractors with a credit card, debit card, gift card, or via PayPal, or a third party system they will not be reported on the form for the 1099 calculation.

You just need to ensure you map the 1099 form correctly.

To become more familiar with the boxes on the form 1099, you can have these article handy:

So, you're saying the OP can choose income accounts? Sounds good, then!  Problem solved!

I wonder why the OP wrote that they can't choose income accounts?
