You're welcome, USABRAVO.

I'll provide additional information about when the 1099 NEC form will be available in QuickBooks Desktop for 2023.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) issues Form 1099 NEC to report nonemployee compensation for independent contractors, freelancers, and self-employed individuals. If you have engaged in such activities in 2023, you may expect to receive a 1099 NEC form from the entity that paid you. However, the IRS only makes the form available to filers starting January 1 of the following year, which means that the 1099 NEC form 2023 will be available on January 1, 2024.

If you use our system to keep track of your income and expenses, you can rest assured that we'll be ready to help you file your taxes as soon as the form is available. We understand how important it is to stay on top of your financial obligations, so we'll ensure you can review and file all your 2023 transactions in our system by January 2024.

Then, you can start e-filing your 1099 before January 29. This ensures your 1099s can be postmarked to your contractors by January 31. You can e-file 1099s through January 31 to be on time with the IRS. E-file is open until April 30.

Additionally, these articles will direct you on how to create your vendor' 1099s, the procedures to file them, modify your contractor 1099, and solutions to frequently asked questions regarding the form:

If you have additional questions about the 1099 and other forms (payroll or contractor), comment below and tag my name. I'll jump right back in to respond to them. Have a good one!

Welcome to the Community, @USABRAVO.

I'm here to share information about when you can run 1099-NEC 2023 in QuickBooks Desktop.

You can start as soon as January 1, 2024, to prepare your 1099-NEC 2023. It is important to begin the process early to ensure you have enough time to gather all data and correct if there are errors before January 31, 2024. It is the deadline for filing with the IRS and sending copies to your contractors.

When you're ready, you can start e-filing and make sure your 1099s can be mailed to your contractors by January 31. Then, e-file them on January 31 to be on time with the IRS. E-filing is open until April 30, 2024.

Here are some resources you can read to help you in managing 1099s with QuickBooks Desktop:

Thank you for that general information it is helpful.  However, the main question is when will the update be available for updating QB to run the 2023 1099's.  We are only about two weeks away from 2024 and QB is still running 1099 data for 2022 tax year.

Hello - it is January 4th and I do not see an option to print form 1099 NEC for the tax year 2022. When will this be available?

January 4, 2024

Warm welcome, Shislop. Let me provide information so you can print your 1099 NEC for the tax year 2022.

If you filed your forms using Tax1099, you can print a copy by following the steps in this Tax1099 article: Where Can I See My Submitted Forms?

Meanwhile, if you filed your 1099's outside QuickBooks, I'd recommend contacting the IRS to get a copy of the prior tax forms.

Moreover, you can run a report to view the total payroll wages, taxes, deductions, and contributions.

I'm here to support you further if you require assistance printing your 1099 NEC or any other forms. Kindly respond by tapping the reply button below. Best wishes, Shislop!

Am I missing something, or are we just getting totally canned answers from Intuit?

I am using Quickbooks 2020 for Mac and have all the latest updates installed, but the app won't give me an option to create and file 1099s for 2023.

Dear Intuit: When will this option be available? It is January 5, 2023, and pretty soon my vendors will start asking me where their 1099s are.

I had the same questions and I am using QB 2022 not on Mac.  I updated my program under HELP... scroll down and update.  As soon as the 1/1/24 hit my 1099's were ready to run.  I am thinking that you need to have a newer version to get the update other than QB 2020.
