What does it mean?  How do I know IRS has received my 1099-NEC?

Welcome to the Community forum, faribaghahrem. Allow me to join you here and answer your inquiry about the status of your submission.

The "In agency" status means the IRS has received your submission, but they have not yet processed or confirmed acceptance of it. Acknowledgment from the IRS may take a few days.

Once the e-file status changes to "Agency accepted," that indicates the IRS has successfully processed your e-filed form and the transaction is complete on their end.

Here is an overview of other common e-filing statuses and what they mean:

  • RECEIVED: Intuit received the submission, but it hasn't been submitted to the agency.
  • PREPARED: Intuit converted the submission into the agency-specific format, but it hasn't been submitted to the agency.
  • SUCCEEDED_AGENCY: The agency has received the payment or filing.
  • FAILED_PREPARATION: Intuit couldn't convert the submission into an agency-specific format. This usually means that there was a problem with the submitted information.
  • REJECTED_AGENCY: The agency rejected the submission. Review the Details button for more information.

We submitted 1099-NEC's on January 1st and our status still say "InAgency." What should we do next? Can we print the 1099-NEC's and give them to our contractors?

I appreciate the additional query you have when handling 1099 payroll filings, hbp1. Let me provide information on the availability of these forms to print in your account.

If you prepare and file 1099s electronically with QuickBooks, we may email or mail a printed copy to your contractors. These forms are due to the IRS and your vendors and are ready for printing by the 31st of January.

E-filing these forms before January 28 at 5:00 PM PT will ensure that by January 31st your contractors can have their 1099s with postmarked on them. Once these are ready for printing, you can review and get a copy of your 1099s. To do this:

  1. Go to Taxes then select 1099 filings.
  2. Select View 1099 to view a PDF copy.

Is the 1099 hard copy mailed to the contractors even if it still says InAgency?
