Question

2022 Quickbooks desktop pro plus can't open one of my companies

When I open quickbooks it opens one of our companies and works fine, but when I try to log out of the company to be able to open a different company, Quickbooks just closes.  I've tried to go to file Open or Restore Company and the same thing happens. Also, have tried file Open previous company and can see the company I want to open but it crashes.  Also, have tried the Quickbooks tool hub and that did not fix it.

Hi there, @jzs.

Utilizing the QuickBooks Tool Hub is a good choice, as it also fixes different problems and errors while using the application. However, right now, there is an ongoing investigation that our engineers are currently looking into about customers showing no option to use the feature.

In this, I recommend contacting our Technical Support Team. This way, they can add your company file to the list of affected users and provide this investigation number for easy tracking: INV-90451.

Here’s how:

  1. From your QuickBooks Desktop account, click the Help menu at the top.
  2. Click the QuickBooks Desktop Help menu and select Contact Us.
  3. Provide some information about this concern in the search box, then select Continue.
  4. Sign in to your Intuit account and tap Continue. Afterward, select Continue with my account.
  5. Please enter the code that will be sent to your via email and select Continue.
  6. From there, select how you want to connect with us. It’s either to chat with us or Have us call you.

On the other hand, you can refer to this link and click the Contact Us button. This will route you to fill out some information about the product you are using and enter a brief description of your concern. Then, please choose a way to connect with us: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support.

We appreciate your patience while we're working on this one. Please know that I’m always here whenever you need more assistance with QuickBooks. Stay safe!

Thank you, but I can't open the file to rebuild that company's data file?  Wouldn't it be rebuilding data for the open company file? The company file that most likely needs rebuilt, I cannot open.  When I open Quickbooks the company datafile that it opens works fine.  It's a different company datafile that I need to open and can't.

Good day, @jzs.

I appreciate your elaboration regarding the file you can't open. Let's perform additional troubleshooting steps intended for this file. Rest assured that I'll do what I can to help you.

Yes, verify and rebuild data is for the open company file. The verify tool finds the most common issues in a company file then the rebuild tool fixes them.

Since the company file won't open, update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release from our website. Please know you can only access a company file (.QBW) and ensure it's not compressed or encrypted.

In addition, QuickBooks can reopen any windows that were left open when you closed your company file. However, if a report or multiple windows will open automatically, it could cause the software to freeze during startup.

If so, this instruction will open your company file without saved windows:

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. In No Company Open, select your company file.
  3. Press and hold ALT on your keyboard and then select Open. Don’t let go of ALT until the file opens. If QuickBooks asks you to sign in, release ALT and enter your password. Press and hold ALT again and select OK.

If it works, turn off the Save the desktop when closing preference by following these steps:

  1. Go to Edit and select Preferences.
  2. Select Desktop View.
  3. Select Don't save the desktop and then OK.
  4. Close and open QuickBooks again and open your company file.

Kindly visit this article to continue to Solution 3 if the issue persists: Can't open your company file in QuickBooks Desktop.

I'd also recommend contacting us for further help. Our representatives are willing to figure out what happened to the file. This way, we can provide an accurate resolution according to your situation.

The solutions presented above are the common troubleshooting steps we give to fix general problems when your company file won't open. If there are any other concerns, add them to this thread or reach out to our Support Team. We'll be glad to assist you.
