Adding Shipping and Handling as a line item glitch

My company has Quickbooks Enterprise, and we recently have been unable to add shipping & handling as a line item. This has not been an issue in the past, but it keeps saying that we need to add it to the items list, but it is already there. Could you help provide a solution?

Beforehand, may I know if you have selected the shipping and handling items when entering your transaction, or did you manually enter it by typing the item name? What specific error message have you encountered?
 

Usually, it will show up, and you can select it in your transactions if you have already saved it from your item list. That said, I suggest reviewing if your shipping and handling items are active from the Item List menu.

 

If you see your item from the dropdown and they are active, I suggest using the QuickBooks Toolhub to fix this problem. It is designed to fix various issues in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) accounting software. It is a collection of tools to fix common problems and errors in QuickBooks, making it easier for users to troubleshoot and resolve issues with the software. Here's how:

 

  1. Close your QuickBooks account.
  2. Download the most recent version of the QuickBooks Tool Hub, then save the file somewhere you can easily locate it.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install.
  5. When the installation finishes, open the Tool Hub on your Windows desktop.
  6. Select Program Problems and click Quick Fix my Program.
  7. Run the QBDT program and try to open your company file.

I appreciate the prompt response, Jamie225. Allow me to clarify things so you can get back to working order.

 

Before we proceed, could you please confirm whether the item is active or inactive?  If it's active, you shouldn't get an error message saying you need to add to the list again. That said, you can review the Item List on how they're set up in QBDT. You can also add a screenshot for visual reference.

 

Also, I recommend updating your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to the latest release to keep your software up-to-date and get the latest features and fixes. 

 

Additionally, you can rebuild and verify your data to find and fix any damaged data in your company file. It also allows your QuickBooks software to refresh and update the data inside the company file. Make sure you have a copy of your data available for future use and protection by backing it up securely before continuing.

To run Verify Data:

 

  1. Click the File tab at the top menu bar.
  2. Hover your cursor to Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Data.

 

Next, run the Rebuild Data option through these steps:

 

  1. Click the File tab at the top menu bar.
  2. Hover your cursor to Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Rebuild.
