Question

Any way to change invoice margins?

The Modern form is now the default and there's no going back. That's fine. But not only did the "invoice details" section get screwed up (now appears below the customer instead of to the right) but there seems to be no way to change the margins. I'm not mistaken, am I? The margins are ridiculously small (about a quarter inch) and invariably a line item gets split across to pages -- category on one page, details on the next. Help?

We have a way to change your invoice margins in QuickBooks Online (QBO), SethBang. I'll gladly show you how to accomplish this.

We'll have to go to the Edit print settings to update your invoice page margins. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Custom form styles.
  2. Choose your invoice form style and click the Edit option.
  3. In the Design tab, go to the Edit print settings.
  4. Update your TopLeftBottom, and Right page margins.
  5. Click Done

Once you're done, you can create and print an invoice to test.

Furthermore, you can pull up the Transaction Detail by Account report to show a list of invoices due on a specific date range. Please see this article for the complete guide: Customize report to see invoices due in QuickBooks Online.

Please feel free to get back to this thread if you have other concerns about the invoice margins and managing sales transactions in QuickBooks. I'd be more than happy to help.

Thanks, but... This would be fine if I was trying to create some lame custom invoice. I want to edit the settings of the new default recommended "Modern" invoice. (Not to be confused with the template also called Modern that is not the same.) That new default invoice only lets you change the color and font. The only custom invoices look like they are from 1982:

This really should not be so difficult.

Hello there, SethBang.

QuickBooks Online currently doesn't allow users to customize the invoice margin other than what my colleague has provided.

Updating the margin of the new default invoice template with more options will also be a great idea. Therefore, I recommend sending feedback directly to our product development team. Your suggestions will be duly noted and taken into consideration while working on future updates for the software.

Here's how:

  1. Head to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Share your comments or product improvement ideas.
  4. Click Next to submit.

You can always track your product suggestions in our Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online website.

Moreover, you might want to review this resource to guide you on entering customer payments: Record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online.

If you have further questions when customizing invoices or other related concerns in QuickBooks Online, please inform us immediately. We are always here to assist you.
