Ask BillPay to contact vendor for ACH details

I am in the painful process of the mandatory switch from Melio (which worked great and was free) to QB BillPay which doesn't work great and is not free.

 

I am adding a new vendor. I want QB to ask him for his ACH details where he can enter them securely. Asking him to email his sensitive information to me so that I can add them manually is NOT secure and NOT professional.

 

Help desk was not helpful and the forums suggest that this isn't a feature currently available in QB BillPay but I'm skeptical as this seems like extremely basic functionality for a service that, well, pays bills. 

 

Please, can someone give me a straightforward answer to this question: Can QB BillPay email a vendor to ask for their delivery details/ACH details?

I don't need a tutorial on how to add a vendor. I don't need to give QB support all my private information about my business so they can look up my account. I just want this basic functionality just like I had last week when I was still happily using Melio.

    I can see the urgency in setting up the vendor's ACH details in your account, Jennifer1029. Let me share all the input to help you manage their information when utilizing QuickBooks BillPay.

     

    For seamless payment processing with your vendors, QBO recommends obtaining their ACH details manually into your file. You can safely enter their data within the program to secure sensitive information or invite them to personally enter their details. To do this:

     

    1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
    2. Navigate to the Pay Bills online page by the following:
      • Select + New. Then Pay Bills Online.
      • Selecting the Bill Pay Online dashboard widget.
      • Selecting the Expense tab, then Pay Bills Online.
    3. To set up a vendor with open bills, select Set up Bank Transfers within the same line as the Payee.

     

    In the meantime, I recommend submitting your valuable suggestion directly to our product engineers to allow QB BillPay to collect ACH information from your vendors. Rest assured that we'll roll out updates on our website once available. Here's how to submit feedback:

     

    1. Go to the Gear icon and select Feedback.
    2. Enter your product suggestions or feedback.
    3. Then, click Next to submit feedback.

    Thanks for perfectly making my point about the copy-paste bot support. Of all the services I deal with on a regular basis, Quickbooks tech support/customer service has got to be the worst. If there was a better alternative for my bookkeeping, I would migrate there in a heartbeat.

    Perhaps you could contact your colleagues and make the "valuable suggestion" on my behalf? A bill pay service should make it seamless and secure to obtain payment details from the payee. Full stop.

     

    On a related note, it was ridiculous to wait a few days to have my bank account verified to use QB BillPay when that same account has been verified and used with Quickbooks for years. The support response of "that's for Online and not for BillPay" gave me a migraine. To the customer, it's all Quickbooks. One of the reasons to use this software is for its integration with multiple functions, which is moot when you divide it up like that.

      You should sign up for a free Melio account to integrate with QBO and keep using their "Ask vendor for  payments details) feature.
