Bank Feeds pulling into wrong version of Quickbooks

I have never had this problem until recently.  I have 2 versions of Quickbooks installed on my computer - Premier and Enterprise.  Premier is our old version that we own and 2 years ago we upgraded and got Enterprise that we use.  I always keep the premier edition closed.  Whenever I import from Chase through bank feeds, it always got posted to Enterprise which is open on my computer.  Lately when I try to import my bank feeds it is forcing open my Premier edition and I cannot get my bank feeds into Enterprise.  Why is this happening and how can I stop it?

Are you double-clicking a local *.QBO file to open it?  If so, then Windows will launch and or use whatever is the default QuickBooks Program, which is probably the last one you installed or maybe repaired or patched.

Instead of double-clicking the file, open it from the QuickBooks File | Utilities | Import | Web Connect files... menu.

How do I make a program the default program?  I am always updating my Enterprise program and it seems the premier is the default.

Hi Frai,

Thank you for posting here in the Community space. I can clarify things about setting a default program for QuickBooks Desktop.

In Windows, you have the ability to change the default programs when opening a specific file type, like webconnect files (.qbo extension files). If you're using the method BigRedConsulting mentioned above, I recommend reviewing your default apps.

Alternatively, follow the second workaround above to ensure your banking data imports to the correct QuickBooks version. Open Enterprise, then follow these detailed steps to import the file:

Here's how:

  1. From Banking, select Bank Feeds, then Import Web Connect Files.
  2. Select the .QBO file you saved, then select Open.
  3. When asked to select your bank account:
    • Use a QuickBooks account that exists if the account you're importing transactions into is already set up in QuickBooks.
    • Create a new QuickBooks account if the account you're importing transactions into isn't in QuickBooks yet.
  4. Select Continue. You'll see a dialog box telling you that the data has been successfully read into QuickBooks. Select OK.
  5. Go to the Bank Feeds Center to review your transactions.

After importing your bank transactions, you can match the transactions to the ones in QuickBooks. For more information about how QuickBooks makes a match with your data, check out this link: Add and match Bank Feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.
