Question

Can anyone help me figure out how to add a line item to an existing budget? I've been able to edit the budget numbers, but I have not found a way to add a line item. Thx!

LONG time QB Desktop User... Been using QBO for 3 years and I don't love it for reasons like this. Something that s/b straightforward is not.

    Hello there, Julie. Are you looking to add a new account as a line item? If that's the case, you can easily incorporate it into an existing budget by creating a new account in your Chart of Accounts (COA). I'm here to guide you through the necessary steps.

    1. Go to the Gear icon and select Chart of Accounts.
    2. Click New.
    3. Fill in the necessary details.

    No, It's an existing account that was created before the new budget was created.  The problem is, the new account does not show up in the new budget and I cannot see a way to add it. Thank you for any guidance you can provide.

      Hi, Julie. Let me help you clear things up.
       
      Please note that the Account type matters when creating a budget in QuickBooks Online (QBO), as this won't show up if it isn't classified under the correct type for the chosen Budget type.


      For a Profit and loss budget, only accounts classified as Income or Expense will appear, so let's ensure that the existing account aligns with this type.

      Conversely, for a Balance Sheet budget, make sure the account is classified as an Asset or Liability to display correctly.
