It seems that I might have to re-enter the banking information when I change them back to direct deposit again.  This is not a great option.

Hello there, martel.

I understand your concern about changing employees to paper cheques for one pay period.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), if an employee's payment method is temporarily changed from direct deposit to paper check, their bank information is retained when switched back to direct deposit. With that, you don't have to re-enter the details.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Payroll menu, then Employees.
  2. Click Run Payroll.
  3. Choose the name of your employee.
  4. Select the drop-down arrow to switch the pay method to Paper check below the employee's name.
  5. Preview and submit your payroll.

If you created a direct deposit but have not yet sent it to Intuit, you can delete the direct deposit check. Then, re-create the paycheck by following the steps given above.

For more information, check this link: Change a direct deposit paycheck to a paper paycheck.

Furthermore, you can visit this page to fix incorrect payroll schedules on paychecks.
