Question

Can I convert QuickBooks to Quicken?

I've used QuickBooks for many years. I have one of the last releases before it went to a subscription. Now that I am retired, I don't need all of the QB features and I don't want to pay the $360 annual fee.

Is there a way that I can import my QuickBooks data into Quicken?

Thanks

I've got steps to ensure you're able to convert your QuickBooks Desktop data to Quicken, @IrisRS.

You can manually convert your data from QuickBooks Desktop to Quicken using Excel. We can start with exporting your Chart of Accounts and Vendor lists.

Export to IIF

  1. Go to the File menu, then select Utilities Export Lists to IIF Files.
  2. Mark Chart of Accounts and Vendor List, then select OK.
  3. On the Export window:
    1. From the Save in drop-down, choose the location where you want to save the IIF file (often, this will be your Desktop).
    2. In the File name field, delete the asterisk (*), then enter a file name.
    3. Select Save, then OK.

After that, you can import your information to Quicken. For the detailed steps, refer to this article and proceed to Step 2Convert from QuickBooks Desktop to Quicken.

For your future reference, you may want to convert your Quicken data to QuickBooks Desktop. Refer to this article for more info: Convert Quicken data to QuickBooks Desktop.

Thanks for that. One more question: Will this work if the QuickBooks data is from QuickBooks on a Windows 10 machine and it is to be imported to Quicken running on a brand new Mac airbook?

Good to see you back, IrisRS.

Yes, it'll work. It doesn't matter if you're using Mac as you'll using an Excel file when converting your data from QuickBooks Desktop to Quicken.

@IrisRS

Which QB Desktop year version do you have? You can still buy the one time license for QBD 2021 Pro or Mac edition.

Hi,

How do you perform this step: Copy and paste your QuickBooks Desktop information into your Quicken (.QIF) file

I’m not sure how to do that so I’m stuck right now. Thanks, Mark

I’m not sure how to copy the information. Are we working with the previous step of that creates the IIF file in excel or something else? I probably will need help pasting it into my .QIF file. Is that a file that is already created via my Quicken Classic for Home and Business (Mac). Thanks for your help. Mark

While there isn't a direct way to transfer data from QuickBooks Online (QBO) to Quicken, 1plus1bookkeeping, I have some alternatives we can explore. Let me elaborate on this below.

Currently, we can only convert Quicken data to QBO. However, there are ways to transfer QBO data to Quicken. One effective method is to export your data from QBO manually. I’ll provide a step-by-step guide to assist you through this process:

  1. Locate the Gear icon and choose Export data.
  2. On the Reports tab, set the date range.
  3. Add or remove items from the Reports and Lists tabs by turning the switch on or off.
  4. Click Export to Excel.

For more information, refer to this article: Export your QuickBooks Online data.

After successfully exporting and saving your data, the next step is to contact Quicken Support. Their experts can provide comprehensive guidance and assistance in importing your data into Quicken, ensuring a smooth and accurate transition.

The second option to convert your data from QuickBooks Online (QBO) to Quicken is to utilize a third-party application designed to streamline this process. This option can help automate the data transfer, minimizing the risk of errors and saving significant time. You can visit the QuickBooks App Store or navigate the Apps menu on your QBO account to find the application suitable for your business needs.

You can also explore the app's Reviews section for valuable customer feedback. Reading these reviews will help you understand other users' experiences, the app's strengths and weaknesses, and its suitability for your business needs, aiding you in making an informed decision.

Additionally, here are some resources you can visit to learn more about managing your account and subscription:
