Can I enter an overpayment on my NYS-45

My NYS unemployment account is currently over paid.. There is a line (line 😎 on the NYS- 45 allows you to enter in the amount that is overpaid. Then in line 10 it subtracts that from what you owe and line 11 allows you to apply any excess to outstanding liabilities and/or refund. I just can't figure out how to edit that pre-generated form on quickbooks.

There are several ways to handle tax overpayment in QuickBooks Online and I'd be happy to share this information with you.

 

Tax overpayments in QuickBooks may happen for a variety of reasons:

 

  • Your SUI tax rate decreased after the tax payment. Update your SUI rate in QuickBooks to maintain accurate tax liability.
  • Voiding or deleting paychecks after a tax payment.
  • Making a duplicate tax payment within the same liability period.
  • Unapplied adjustments or credits.

 

To handle this overpayment, you can leave it as it is if the quarter hasn't ended yet. It'll cover the additional payroll tax liabilities for the rest of the quarter until it's all used up.

 

However, if you wish to apply the overpayment to the next quarter or request a refund instead, follow these steps:

 

  1. Go to Taxes, then Payroll Tax.
  2. Select Payments.
  3. Look for the Overpaid tax, then click Resolve.

  4. Select one of the following if available:
    • Request a refund (Note that you'll need to contact your tax agency to get your refund)
    • Apply to a future tax payment (recommended)
  5. Select Confirm, then Done.
  6. If you'd like to request refunds or apply overpayments to future periods, contact the IRS or your state agency.

The overpayments are not marked as overpaid on quickbooks.  I don't have the official tax letter anymore I just have my account summary from NYS DOL website right now. When I follow the direction there is no resolve button.

1. Click the Help (?) button.
2. Select either tab to get started:
