I was able to add the SKU field but now I can not type in the SKU? the service is manufacturing and I do not want to open the service and type in every SKU to the add a product page. I would like to type in different sku's into this fillable field just as I do with Description. Is this possible?

I can see the importance of entering an SKU number on your estimate. Let me help you with the additional steps to resolve this issue, Garrett.

Once you add the SKU field as a custom field, we'll need to manually enter the number on the field when creating estimates. See the screenshot below:

We can only create 3 custom fields on sales forms in QuickBooks Online Plus and Essentials. In QuickBooks Online Plus, you can only create 3 custom fields for purchase orders. To do this, just follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the Gear icon on the top menu and select Custom fields.
  2. Click Add field.
  3. Enter a name in the Name field as SKU.
  4. Select the All Sales forms checkbox. Or, select both.
  5. To show the custom field on printed and delivered forms, turn on Print on form. Otherwise, it’ll only appear in QuickBooks Online.
  6. Press Save.

You can check out this article for the steps and details: Add custom fields to sales forms and purchase orders in QuickBooks Online. If the same thing happens, let's perform some browser troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue. To start, let's open QBO using an incognito browser. Private browser prevents saving cache and cookies that sometimes cause errors when running frequently visited websites. Here are the shortcut keys:

  • Ctrl + Shift + N for Google Chrome
  • Ctrl + Shift + P for Firefox
  • Control + Option + P for Safari

If it works, return to your default browser and perform clear cache. Every so often the cache becomes overwhelmed with older data which can potentially cause viewing and performance issues. Clearing it will refresh the system, and you'll be able to work with a clean slate. Switching to other supported web browsers can also help rectify the issue.

This adds a new field for a single SKU. I need to add many SKU's to the table below. How do I add the ability to type in the SKU field? See image

I'll share some information about the SKU field in an estimate.

The ability to directly type in the SKU field is unavailable in QuickBooks Online. QuickBooks will not auto-generate the SKU. You will need to enter the SKUs manually. Here's how:

  1. Click on the Gear icon.
  2. Select Product and Services.
  3. Click on Edit, under Action.
  4. Enter the SKUs.
  5. Click on Save and close.
