Thank you for reaching out about your QuickBooks Online Payroll autopay setup issue, KG18976. I understand the importance of a smooth-running payroll system, especially for automating payments. Let's work together to resolve this and get your system fully operational.

To begin with, could you please provide me with more details about where exactly you're getting stuck in the setup process? Are you receiving any specific error messages? This will help us identify the root cause of the issue and find the most effective solution.

In the meantime, here are some key steps to ensure a successful autopay setup:

  • Verify Employee Information: Make sure all required fields for each employee are complete and accurate
  • Double-check bank Account Information: Ensure that the bank account details are correct.

Auto Payroll works for salaried or hourly employees with fixed hours. Please ensure employees are set up with active status, salary or hourly pay, a pay schedule, and tax information (W-4 and state taxes).

Please note that Auto Payroll does not work for commission-only employees, inactive employees, or 1099 contractors. It is also not recommended for hourly employees whose hours change each pay period.

To set default hours:

  1. Navigate Payroll and select Employees
  2. Choose your employee.

  3. From Pay types, tap Start or Edit.

  4. Enter the Hours per day and Days per week.
  5. Click Save, then Done.

To turn on auto payroll, here's how:

  1. Sign in to QBO as the Primary Admin, then choose which employees you want to pay with Auto Payroll.
  2. Go to Settings and click Payroll settings.
  3. In the Auto Payroll box, tap Edit.
  4. Select the employees you wish to pay on Auto Payroll. You'll only be able to select eligible employees.
  5. Hit Save changes.
  6. Review the confirmation display for the total number of employees and important dates related to your Auto Payroll processing.
  7. Press Done.
