Question

Can QuickBooks prepare and file a 1099 for an American citizen with a Canadian address? It seems to choke on the address.

Let me elaborate some information when filing 1099 for US citizen with Canadian address, Salish.

Currently, preparing and filing 1099 in QuickBooks Online (QBO) with a non-US address is unavailable. You'll have to get a W-8BEN form instead. Then, the contractor has to sign the form to justify that he or she is a non-U.S. citizen and manually file them outside QuickBooks.

If your contractor is unable to provide his or her SSN or TIN, you can leave the identification number box blank at the time of filing. However, you'll still submit a report to IRS since they will send a notice about the missing SSN or TIN number. The notice must be sent along with a backup withholding notice and W-9 form to the subcontractor.

But I also recommend contacting with IRS to double-check with them to ensure you're filing the correct form.

You'll want to check this link. This will show you the steps on how to run basic reports, memorize, and customize them. Run reports in QuickBooks Online

I'll be here if you have additional concerns. Have a nice day.
