Before anything else, may I know if you've tried performing the steps provided by the previous representative? If yes, and the issue persists, I recommend reaching out to our QuickBooks Customer Care Team. This way, they can check and investigate to determine the root cause of the problem. They can also help you sort it out so you can complete your tasks in QBDT. I'll gladly input the steps below so you can proceed. To begin, here's how:
- Open QuickBooks.
- Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help/Contact Us.
- Select Contact Us.
- Give a brief description of your issue, then select Continue.
- Sign in to your Intuit account and select Continue and then Continue with my account.
- If you don't already have an account, make sure to Create a new account.
6. We'll email you a single use code. Enter your code and select Continue.
- If you have more than one account, select the account you want to use and then Continue.
7. Select to chat with us or Have us call you.

I discovered how to fix the problem although the QuickBooks support person could not. The problem was that my company file ended in ADR instead of QBW so it wasn't identified as a Quickbooks company file. I made a copy of the ADR file, changed it to a QBW, and was able to open the company file and create a backup which I was able to restore. No where in any of the information did I see this solution. I suggested it be added to the knowledge base. Apparently you can't restore a backup created from an ADR file
