Cannot run QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2020 due to IE Internet Explorer 11 requirement

I am suddenly completely unable to use my QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2020.  This, because Intuit requires that Internet Explorer 11 be installed and does not recognize Microsoft's Internet Explorer 11 compatibility mode.  Since my computers are all Windows 11 it is not possible to install Internet Explorer 11.

Please help!!

1. Is there a command line option, an INI file entry, or a registry trick to get around Intuit's block?

2. If Intuit has truly left me high and dry, I would appreciate advice about other products that can import my QB files.

This is quite a shock and your insights will be much appreciated.

Kind regards,

 Chris

Try reinstalling QB in Win 8 compatibility mode. I still can't believe running QB on Win 11 and still monitoring the situation next year. If you are still eligible, you can downgrade your OS to Win 10 with the same license key.

Hi Chris,

We've created a built-in browser to replace Internet Explorer 11. All you have to do is update your QuickBooks so it can be patched with the program. Since you can't open QuickBooks now, you'll want to manually download the update online and run it on your computer.

  1. Go to the Downloads & Updates page and select the standard setup.
  2. From Select Country, select your country.
  3. From Select Product, select your product.
  4. From Select Version, select your version (year).
  5. Select Search.
  6. Select Get the latest updates.
  7. When the download finishes, open the file to install the update. Restart your computer after installing it.

If you receive an error or the update fails to install, end the following background tasks and reinstall the downloaded update file afterward.

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. Right-click on the taskbar, then select Task Manager.
  3. Under the details tab, look for the following background processes to select and End task for each.
    • QBW32.exe or QBW.exeQBCFMonitorService.exe
    • qbupdate.exe
    • QBDBMgr.exe or QBDBMgrN.exe
    • QBMapi32.exe
  4. Right-click on the QuickBooks shortcut and select Run as administrator.

Here are the articles about the built-in browser and the manual update for your reference.

I've repeated the process from "Get the latest updates" through restart and finally to "Running as administrator" on the QB shortcut.  Every time I get the "Internet Explorer is turned off ..." pop-up and QB stops.

Any recommended next steps?

Thank you and kind regards,

Chris
