Question

Change default accounts when using multicurrency

Been using multi currency for a few years.  Is it possible to chnage the accounts used when the home currency adjustment feature is executed.  If not would the best approach be to used change the journal entry once it is posted.  Any long term impacts if this is done?

Welcome to the Community space, @darkjohn. I'll be glad to help share some insight about changing accounts with multicurrency in QuickBooks.

Yes, you can modify some of the accounts in your Chart of Accounts. However, some are the default, and we're unable to change them in QuickBooks. If it's a default account, you can create a journal entry.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Company menu.
  2. Select Make General Journal Entries.
  3. Fill out the fields to create a JE.
  4. Click Save & Close once done.

For more information on how to use a JE, here's an article you can read for reference: Create a journal entry in QuickBooks Desktop.

However, the long-term impacts of these are there might be gains and losses in your reports and accounts in QuickBooks. That said, I'd highly suggest consulting your accountant for guidance to ensure your books will be accurate.
