Bryan_M and Chrea, Quickbooks Team 121224 Found Files
Dear Bryan M.
In the folder C:\Users\taterb, I found the following files using the old company name 5033 Mustang Way:
5033 Mustang Way.QBW.SearchIndex file folder
5033 Mustang Way Quickbooks Company File
5033 Mustang Way.QBW DSN File
5033 Mustang Way.QBW.ND ndFile
5033 Mustang Way.QBW TLGFile
The new company name is 606 Martin Ave. Do I simply change the Quickbooks Company File and 3 file names to the 606 etc. ?
----------------------------
Dear Chrea, I simply changed the company name from 5033 Mustang Way to 606 Martin Ave onscreen within the file that was 5033. But it did not change the filename.
Following my colleague's response, @coppens1, yes, you can change your QuickBooks company file name to the new one (606 Martin Ave). I can guide you through the process.
First, make sure to create a backup copy of your company file. Then, take note of the file location where your company file is stored. Follow the steps below to complete the process:
- In QuickBooks, check the location of the company file.
- While on the Home page, press F2 or Ctrl+1 to open the Product Information window.
- Note the location listed in the File Information field.
- Go to the location specified.
- Right-click the Windows Start button and select File Explorer.
- Right-click the file and select Rename. The file name may appear as [CompanyName].qbw or just [CompanyName].
- Change the file name and press Enter.
- Click Yes to confirm the action.
Afterward, you can set up QuickBooks Desktop to use the new company file name. Here's how:
- On your QuickBooks Desktop program, click the File menu.
- Select Open or restore an existing company.
- Click Open a company file, then hit Next.
- Select the newly renamed company file and click Open.
