Changing a vendor's business id from ssn to ein

I have a vendor who's original W9 listed a social security number and they have now submitted a revised W9 using an EIN. I am not able to make a change to the Business Id in the vendor details section. Is there another spot to make this change?

Thanks!

I have some ways to get your vendor’s business ID updated in QuickBooks, @jillgr.

You mentioned you’re unable to make a change to your vendor business ID. Did you encounter issues during the verification process, an error message, or prompts? If so, I’ve got troubleshooting steps to sort it out.

First, access your QuickBooks Online account through an incognito or private window for testing and to determine if this is caused by browser-related concerns. Here are the shortcut keys below for quick navigation:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari 11 or newer: + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P

Once logged in, go to your Vendor section and try to update the said info by selecting the View/Edit Business ID option. If you’re prompted to a verification process, please follow the instructions to proceed. If you can modify it successfully, get back to your regular browser and clear its cache. Doing this helps the program to run smoothly. You can also use other supported browsers as an alternative.

On the other hand, if the issue persists, I recommend contacting our support team. Our live representatives can check this further and find more solutions to ensure this revision gets documented in the program.
