Question

Coding PayPal fees

Before the PayPal app, my company coded/classified PayPal fees to the same account as the deposit.  This allows for a better understanding of the net proceeds from a donation for a particular fundraiser, event or service.  Is there a way to select a category for the fees as well as a category for the deposit?

Hello Pamela22,

You have the option to categorize your fees directly from the PayPal settings. As for the deposits, their categorization will depend on the included product or item. Let me further discuss this matter below.

Firstly, it's important to understand that the app imports both the income and the associated fee, grouping them together into a single Deposit. With this, each product and service listed will be linked to its specific income account, which is set up within QuickBooks Online.

If you want to change its a deposit category, it's recommended to review the income account of the item that is included. To do so, here's how:

  1. Head to the Settings, then select Products and services.
  2. Locate the item associated from the deposit and select Edit.
  3. From the Income account dropdown, select the account you want to use.
  4. Once done, click Save and close.

On the other hand, if you're using the PayPal Connector by QuickBooks app you can change the the PayPal fees to your preferred category from the PayPal settings.  To do so, please follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Transactions, then App transaction.
  2. Click the tile for PayPal.
  3. Navigate to the PayPal setting, then Advanced.
  4. From the Advanced page, select the appropriate category from the Fees dropdown.
