Company File disappeared & can't restore from backups

I am running Enterprise 24.0. Windows had an update on Jan 29, 25 on Jan 30th all my company files are missing. And I can't restore from backup. When trying I get an error that I need to download the newest version of File Repair Doctor and then it can't find that file.

I have downloaded the newest Tool Hub but that is not helping either. I have uninstalled the Windows update and still no luck.

@MC-TMI  When you say that your company files are missing, do you mean that the previous company list is empty? Or, are the files actually no longer located at their normal location? Something else entirely?

Hi,   My companies show in the list but the last modified is blank when I was in them on Jan 29th. When I went to the file location all the company files were missing. I have the backups but they will not restore.

Thank you for raising your concern to us, @MC-TMI.

I acknowledged the time you've spent troubleshooting on your end, and I appreciate you for taking the initiative to get this done. Let's work together to resolve this issue, MC-TMI. I have another workaround for you. Let's try to pull up the hidden files and folders.

Here's how:

  1. Select the folder icon to open File Explorer on your Desktop or System Tray.
  2. Click the View tab and select Hidden Items.

On the other hand, let's also try using Windows

Here's how:

  1. Press Windows+E on your keyboard to open the Windows Explorer.
  2. Press Ctrl+F to select the Search Box.
  3. Enter the file name or file extension with an asterisk (*). Ex. (*.qbb)
  4. It will then display your search results.

Additionally, you can also search for the missing company file or cannot be found.

Furthermore, you can utilize this article that will help you regarding your missing company files: Can't open your company file in QuickBooks Desktop.
