Converting a QBB file to a QBW file

I am having trouble converting a QBB file to QBW.  It opens the QBB file and then when it asks me where I want to restore the file the dialog at the bottom does not include the name of the file.  It only shows up as *.QBW.  When I add the name I want for the file, nothing happens.

Hi there, @jantco. Let me help you on converting and restoring your backup file.

 

Before restoring your data in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), I recommend updating the system to the latest release to make sure that it will convert your .QBB file to .QBW.  After that, let's continue to restore your backup file (QBB file).

 

  1. Open/run QuickBooks Desktop. 
  2. From the No Company Open window, click Open or restore a company file.
  3. Choose Restore a backup copy, and then hit Next.
  4. Tick the Local backup radio button. Then select Next. 
  5. Find and select the QBB file that you want to restore, then click Open. 
  6. You'll be asked where you want to restore the file. Select Next.
  7. You can rename the file and click Save.

I'm QB enterprise 24.  I follow these steps, dialog box shows .qbw, but when the process is complete there is no .qbw file.   only my original qbb remains.  I go to file explorer and no qbw where I said restore to, and in quickbooks "no company open" page only shows the .qbb version I was trying to restore from.    thoughts?   thank you!!

Start by finding the file using a wildcard search on your computer's server for all company files. Ensure you prefix the file extension with an asterisk (*) to guarantee the search functions properly.

 

When looking for QBDT files (.QBW, QBB, QBM, QBI, etc.) in your file explorer, using wildcards can help. For instance, searching "*.QBW" will show all QuickBooks company files.

 

Once the file is shown in the File Explorer, you can relocate it to a more accessible folder. Please make a note of the file's location and proceed to solution 2 in this article: Company file is missing or cannot be found.

 

If you are unable to locate the file, consider reaching out to your IT specialist for assistance in locating your QBW file.
