Corrupt Company File

Hello. I have QB Desktop 2022 Pro Plus and I have been told that I have a corrupt company file. After months of talking to several QB support people, my case was moved up and I sent the company file off to QB to be repaired. After 3 weeks they said it was done, walked me through the upload and closed the file. It is still having problems, so my question is, if I open another company (and start entering information so that I can mirror both for a while before I close out the old one,) as long as I don't upload or copy anything from the original company, will the new company be safe from the "corruption?" Is it a company issue or a QB issue and any company I have will be corrupt?

Hi there, @ICMLCTX

Thanks for taking the time to reach out to the QuickBooks Community for support.

You can create a new company file and get a fresh start with out the corruption following over to the new company by manually entering the data in the new file. However, I encourage you to reach back out to our Data Services Team and let them know that you're still having issues with the company file they sent back. The email they sent that contains the file will have a contact link and case number that you can use. If you don't see this included in the email, you can use the link I've included below to chat with the Data Services Team directly.

What kind of problem did you encounter with your file? Consider purchasing a 3rd party file repair service.

Thanks for your reply. I have considered that, but the company was set up incorrectly originally and I am looking to close it, move to QB online, and create a new one correctly. I know that I would have to mirror for a while. I was thinking though, that I could save some time later by opening a new one, correctly, in desktop, and entering all my vendors, customers and other basic information, then uploading it all into the online version when I am ready to make the move. It doesn't make sense to spend money to fix a company file that needs to be closed anyway.

My problems are: reports with information over multiple calendar years; payables (and the payment for them) staying on the payables report; sales tax that cannot be removed (adjusted, JE, credit, nothing takes it off).

You can utilize a migration tool to create a new company file for QB Desktop. e.g you can migrate Bills and Bill Payments data separately.

Thank you. This is very helpful.

As for reaching back out, I tried that - was told that the case was closed and that I would have to start all over again. I don't have the months to invest in trying to get to the Data Services Team nor the 3 weeks without my accounting system that it takes them to "fix" the problem. I think starting over is the best option.

Thanks again!!

Hi guys I'm running Quick books Accountant 2016 om Microsoft Server 2016. I logged into today after a user complaint that the "company file couldn't be found". I checked and noticed all company files had been become ZERO Kb. Any known solution for this?

@David Bwalya

Check your backup folder and restore any *.qbb files to make sure.
