Data Migration from QuickBooks Desktop trail 24 version Business central

We're working on a client requirement to migrate QuickBooks Desktop data (dating back to 2015) to Business Central. To understand the migration process, we've implemented a test migration using QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 24.0 trial version. Here's our process and the challenges we're facing:

1.We used the Microsoft Data Exporter to create a zip file.
2.We imported this file into the Business Central Data Migration Wizard.

However, we're encountering two main errors:

"The migration has stopped because we found some customers in Business Central. You must delete them and then restart the migration."
"Could not find a part of the path 'C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Microsoft Dynamics NAV\240\Server\MicrosoftDynamicsNavServer$MS\users\msft1a6720t64127757\749e27df-b030-4d40-9a66-348e33c134ae\TEMP{56AD6F13-E54C-4CA4-9FF7-328284C12659}'"

We're seeking advice on:

1.What's the correct approach to migrate data from QuickBooks Desktop 2015 to Business Central?
2.How can we successfully implement a data migration demo on QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions 24.0 trial version ?
3.Are there specific considerations for migrating older QuickBooks data (2015) compared to more recent versions?
4.How can we resolve the errors we're encountering?
5.Any insights, best practices, or step-by-step guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help!

You may have 3 options:

1. Start data in BC from scratch. You will access historical data in QB Desktop

2. Use the exporter tool to export data from QB Desktop to csv files. It's a $299 one time license and you can get $100 cashback to purchase the license from a partner.

2. Purchase a 3rd party service to convert your data.

I appreciate you coming to the Community about migrating QuickBooks Desktop 2015 data to Business Central, @2444379.

The only way to synchronize QuickBooks with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is by using the online version of our product.

For this to work, you will need to upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop 2015 version to a newer version before converting it to QBO.

On the other hand, you may consider Transaction Pro since it's used for importing and exporting transactions from and to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

For the best practices and guidance:

  • Always perform a full backup of your QuickBooks data before attempting any migration.
  • Test the migration process thoroughly using a copy of your data before attempting the live migration.
  • Work closely with your Business Central partner to ensure the migration is properly configured and executed.
  • Be prepared for potential data cleanup or formatting that may be required after the initial migration.
  • Have a plan in place for handling any data discrepancies or issues that arise during or after the migration.

I'll add the article on how to import and export data in QuickBooks Desktop an as a future reference.

I'm always to back you up whenever you have other questions about migrating your data. Take care

Thank you for your response, @AbegailS_ . Your assistance has been invaluable. I have a few questions about the migration process. According to the links you provided, we need to purchase a license for the upgraded desktop version. I would like to know the cost of the license, the best version to upgrade to, and the detailed pricing.

As per my understanding, the process is as follows:

  1. Take a backup of the company file.
  2. Purchase the license for the version we want to upgrade to.
  3. Install QuickBooks Desktop Manager.
  4. Purchase a new version or get a subscription that allows us to upgrade.
  5. Upgrade to the desired version using your license number or email.

Please guide me if I missed anything.

I also tried migrating from QuickBooks Online to Business Central and the process was smooth. However, I encountered an error stating, “The migration has stopped because we found some customers in Business Central. You must delete them and then restart the migration.” I am unsure why this error occurred. If there are customers, will it not allow the migration? How can this issue be resolved?

I would like to post this text in the community. Could you please help me improve it and correct any grammatical errors? Thank you.

Yes, you can migrate data from the QuickBooks Desktop 2024 trial to QuickBooks Online. Even if your trial expired, you can reinstall a 30-day version, open your company file, and use the built-in migration tool.

If you need more control over the migration - like filtering specific records or transforming data along the way - you might also look into no-code platforms like Skyvia. It supports custom data transfers between different QuickBooks versions and other systems too.
