Discontinuation of services for Quickbooks Pro 2020

Since my QBDT Pro 2020 will be discontinued in May, I need to know *EXACTLY* what the statement below means. I pulled it from the official Intuit page on the discontinuation:

https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/feature-preferences/quickbooks-desktop-service-discontinuation-policy/L17cXxlie_US_en_US

Under the FAQ section, Other services:

"Online Banking: You won't be able to download transactions, send online payments, or send online transfers."

I need a clear, concise explanation of what "You won't be able to download transactions" means.

I currently use no extra services from Intuit like payroll or CC processing. The only things I use, where the above statement is a concern, are downloading a .QBO file from my bank and uploading to QBDT for my credit card, and DirectConnect to my bank accounts for banking transactions.

Will I still be able to use those functions after May 31, or will they be shut off?

I do not care about losing support (never used it), security updates, or extra services (have none).

I have no interest in paying a ridiculous annual fee for software I already own. With the well known history of Inuit support, I can already envision a "mistake" at Intuit that shuts off my account and locks me out of my files and information. No thanks, I'll pass on that.

I can share some information about the discontinuation of services of QuickBooks Desktop 2020, @cozog.

Yes, you're right. QuickBooks Desktop 2020 will be discontinued after May 31, 2023. If you don't use any of the add-on services in QuickBooks Desktop 2020, it'll continue to work for you.

About online banking, your connected bank accounts can no longer pull up your latest transactions. Send online payments and transfers if you use our Payments or Merchants services.

In case you're having an error while working with your bank accounts while your QuickBooks is not yet discontinued, check out this article: Fix OL and OLSU Bank Feeds errors in QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me know if you need further information about the QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation. I'm always here to answer them for you. Have a great rest of the day!

It seems that there are no "one-time" cost solutions from Intuit any more.

I called the sales dept to get quotes on the subscriptions. The desktop minimum subscription is now $550/year for 1 user license. A 3 person license (which is what my current version has) is $950/year.

I think I paid $400 for it 3 years ago. That is a 7x increase in annual cost for the software.

It really is outrageous, but like everyone else, what option is there?

Sage is the only desktop competitor I could find.

But the thought of trying to change the accounting software I have been using for 15+ years makes me want to throw up.

If I had the time and patients to change software, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Unfortunately, I will likely sign up for a subscription and call it "the cost of doing business", like most everyone else in this situation.

If you just need to continue using the bank feed feature, upgrading to the Plus edition is too much. You should consider the importer tool with one time license as I mentioned earlier.

@cozog

After May 2023, you won't be able to import *.qbo files any longer. You will need a 3rd party tool to import bank statements in csv/xls files.

I'm here to elaborate on some details when upgrading QuickBooks. This will guide you on what you're supposed to do.

When upgrading QuickBooks to the 2023 version, elevates the current version of the software to a more advanced one. So, it's a straightaway explanation of the purchase of a new segment of the software and yes you'll be paying an amount depending on the version. However, you'll be able to benefit from the entire collection of the latest features and functionalities that have been integrated.

One example is if you're currently using QuickBooks Pro, and QuickBooks Pro 2023 is launched, you'll have to upgrade to the latest version by paying the full retail price.

On the other hand, updates are needed when certain bugs or glitches are spotted. These updates let you work smoothly and comfortably so that you don't have to encounter bugs or glitches frequently.

As long as you have an active payroll and are using a supported QuickBooks version, assistance from our Payroll Support Team continues.

Learn from this article how you can upgrade Quickbooks: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier, Or Enterprise.

Moreover, you may want to know about the QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy and how it affects your service. Read this article for more information: QuickBooks Desktop Service Discontinuation Policy.

Please get back to us if you have any other questions about the upgrade. We're always right here to help you.

Why wont my 'upgrade' link work under my help menu?

March 13, 2023

I can see the importance of having the Help menu work, @custom11_2. I'll share other ways to upgrade your subscription as we get this fixed.

Keeping your QuickBooks updated will help restore the Help menu's functionality. With this, let's manually download and install specific updates. I'll show you how:

  1. Go to the Downloads & Updates page.
  2. From the Select Country drop-down, select your country.
  3. From the Select Product drop-down, choose your product.
  4. From the Select Version drop-down, click your version (year).
  5. Select Search.
  6. Press Get updates, then save the file.

After that, open the file to install the update, then restart your computer. Let's reopen your QuickBooks company file and check the Help menu. If it's now working, you can proceed to upgrade to a newer version of QuickBooks Desktop from there.

If your Help pane is still unresponsive, we can follow these steps to get a prompt to upgrade:

  1. Go to Edit, and then select Preferences.
  2. Select General, and then click My Preferences.
  3. Press Bring back all one time messages, then OK.
  4. Close, then reopen QuickBooks to receive the prompt to upgrade your QuickBooks subscription.

You'll want to check out this article to learn about the other ways of upgrading your QuickBooks subscription: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier, or Enterprise. This contains all the instructions according to different scenarios.

See this article to learn about the service discontinuation along with the products affected: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.

You can also check out this reference in case you have other icon issues: Learn what to do if you see the font, sizing, or other display issues. It has the recommendation to fix the settings on the system.

You can post anytime if you need more guidance. I'm always right here whenever you need additional information about the Help menu or your QuickBooks subscription.

I plan on keeping my Quickbooks Pro 2022 desktop without Payroll support.  Can I continue to import credit card transactions after 5/31/23?

May 11, 2023

Can I still use QuickBook Pro desktop version

@MJo4

Any specific concern?

April 25, 2023

I received a reply today below.  So if I purchased my QBDT 2020 I have an active license, why wouldn't it be active.  Thanks

You are using QBD 2022, correct? As long as your license is active, you can still use the bank feeds feature after May 2023 You can also use a 3rd party tool to convert *.ofx to *.qbo.

Hello,

I need some clarification on the discontinuation of QBDT 2020 Pro.

This thread jumps from the 2020 version to the 2021 version which my client does not have.

They have QuickBooks Desktop 2020 Pro

On Friday, they sent me a panicky email telling me that their QBDT 2020 Pro is being killed off on May 31st and that all data will be lost

This is what they sent me

Hi Steve

Do you remember those late evening calls you made once to QB Helpline – a lady in Holland was very helpful, a lady in the UK was not quite so! Well, the Desktop version is being withdrawn for maintenance subscription on 31 May, but worse still, all the client data is to be wiped clean at the same date.

Whilst both Tina and Ashish are handling transition from QB to Xero for their managed clients, this only makes the current year safe in Xero, leaving the last 6 years data inaccessible.

QB advise transferring all the 6 year data as CSV files which has both procedural and storage issues. Whilst I get Tina and Ashish to ensure all QB client files are listed for transfer, including any in the process of transition, can you address the procedure issue (Jasmin is receiving the QB instructions shortly) and work out our storage scheme please.

Note 31 May is a Friday, two weeks from today, less public holiday on Monday 27 May.

Many thanks

Michael

It seems overkill that the 2020 version will have its data wiped.

Am I correct in thinking that the data will remain intact but no new updates, security fixes, no access to add-on, payroll and Internet banking will be available. Just historic data

Thank you

Steve

@AtmosSteveVR

You are asking about QB Desktop UK version. If you have QB Desktop 2020 UK version with a non subscription license, you will be fine after this month.
