Does anyone know how to update invoice preferences on QB Self-Employed? I type up an estimate and often it is a few months before the project is completed.

To update your invoice preference, @kscoleman, you'll have to create an invoice or edit an existing one in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE). Let me provide detailed steps to change it.

But beforehand, may I know what specific changes you prefer to make to your customer invoices?

If you're creating an invoice in QBSE, you can click on the Customize button from the Invoice window. Then, a side pane will appear from the right, allowing you to update your preferences for Invoice details, Payments, Design, Email, and PDF. As an expert, you've mentioned previously that you created an estimate, were you migrated your QBSE account to QuickBooks Online Solopreneur (QBSP)? To help you navigate it, I've attached a few video snippets for visual reference for both in QBSE and QBSP (QBSP is an upgraded version of QBSE, the steps and some terms are slightly different).

In QBSP, you can also navigate to the Accounts and settings and dive in to Sales to update your invoice preferences for Sales form content, Invoice payments, Late fees, Progress Invoicing, Messages, Reminders, and Online delivery.

To change your invoice preference using an existing one in QBSE, go to the Invoices menu and select View/Edit from the Action column. In QBSP, hover to the Get paid menu and then select Invoices. Once done, click View/Edit under Action column.  Please follow the same steps that I've replicated, refer to the video above.

Also, since you mentioned that you type up an estimate and wanted to remove the 30-day limit, are you referring to the Expiration date? If so, you can edit the estimate and click the Manage button to remove that field from the Customization section. Let me show you how:

1. From the estimate window, click Manage.
2. Select Customization and toggle Expiration date to gray.
3. Click Save/Save and new/Save and close.
