Question

Does login info to view 1099s online auto-send to clients once we have filed them in Quickbooks? Or is there something manual we need to do for the emails to go out?

We filed on 1/30 and assumed the email notifications for clients to view their 1099s online would go out automatically at the same time. Since they haven't, we wanted to know if there is a manual process by which to ensure clients receive this email so they can access their forms.

Hello andrew, I'd be happy to help you with the matter at hand. 

 

After submitting the form to the IRS, the contractors you listed will receive an email notifying them that the form is ready for download. In order for them to receive this email, you'll need to make sure that you've included their email address in their contractor profile when you file the form. 

 

Once they receive the email, they can simply click on the link to sign in or create a limited QuickBooks Self-Employed account, where they can view the 1099s. 

 

If the status of the form is showing as Emailed but your contractors haven't received it, ask them to check their spam folder.

Thank you so much for the detailed reply!

 

All the 1099s are reflecting that they've been mailed but NOT emailed. I double checked and the contractors do have their emails listed in their contractor profiles.

 

Is there a way to manually email them the notification, by chance? And is there some option I should be checking to ensure they auto-send in future tax years?

Allow me to provide additional information about emailing 1099s.

 

You can manually send your contractors a copy of their 1099s by downloading it and using an external email service to send it to them. 

 

To download it, here's how:

 

  1. Go to the 1099s filing page.
  2. Select the contractor whose 1099 you want to download.
  3. Click on View 1099 next to the contractor's name.
  4. Hit the Download button.

 

Furthermore, there's no option to auto-send 1099s to contractors for future tax years. This is because setting up their profiles and emails is part of the 1099 process.
