Duplicated Inventory

I added items to inventory then created a bill for the supplier. This ended up duplicating the amount in my inventory. How do I fix this?

Let's adjust the inventory quantity for your items to keep your record in order, venessa. I'm here to ensure you can do this task in just a few clicks.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. In QuickBooks Online (QBO), tap the New menu in the upper-left and choose Inventory qty adjustment under Other.
  2. Enter the date in the Adjustment date field.
  3. Click the Inventory adjustment account drop-down and select the appropriate account.
  4. Type the item name in the Product field.
  5. The description and current quantity on hand auto-populate.
  6. For each item, enter either a new quantity or a change in quantity.
  7. In the Memo field, key in the details about the adjustment.
  8. Press the Save and close button.

I would have to do inventory now to determine the quantity on hand to make this adjustment. Why is it duplicating though? Do I just not add the vendor as an expense? How do I enter the inventory in the first instance so as not to have this duplication?

Thanks for getting back to the thread, @venessapowell. I'll chime in and share my thoughts on how you can manage your inventory.

 

QuickBooks Online has everything you need to manage your inventory. Track your inventory, get notified when it's back in stock, and gain insight into your purchases and sales. If you haven't enabled these settings, here's how:

 

  1. Go to Settings ⚙ and select Account and Settings.
  2. Select the Sales tab.
  3. Choose Edit ✎ in the Products and Services section.
  4. Turn on Show Product/Service column on sales forms.
  5. You can also turn on price rules if you want to set up flexible pricing for the things you sell.
  6. Turn on both Track quantity and price/rate and Track inventory quantity on hand.
  7. Click Save and then Done.

 

After enabling the inventory tracking, you can proceed in adding your inventory products:

 

  1. Go to Get Paid & Pay and select Products & Services (Take me there).
  2. Click New or Add a Product or Service. Then select Inventory.
  3. Add a Name, SKU, or Category for what you're tracking. Tip: Categories let you group your products and services together so they’re easier to find.
  4. Choose the unit from the Unit* ▼ dropdown.
  5. Click the category from the Category ▼ dropdown.
