Estimating expenses without project estimate

How can I estimate project overall expenses without a project estimate?

 

we cannot seem to create a project estimate by API only a normal estimate so we are trying to figure out how to tag estimated expenses on the project? Our sales tool provides all that info and we want to automate pulling that into QBO.
