Question

Get error when I try to save an estimate: We're sorry, we can't save the sales tax you're trying to set up right now. Please try again later. What is the cause/fix for?

Hello, info1943.

It's either your sales tax setup or your browser's cache that is the cause of the error message you've encountered. I know how to fix this so you can save estimates and all other sales transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO). I'll gladly guide you through the steps below.

If the error is due to your sales tax setup, you'll have to double-check and make sure your settings, agencies, and rates are correct in the Sales Tax Center. You can check out this article to guide you through the process: Set up your sales tax in QuickBooks Online.

If the error is because of your browser's cache, you can perform some troubleshooting steps. Your browser saves files to load websites faster on your next visit. But over time, it'll get outdated, which can cause errors and performance issues using QBO.

Start by pulling up your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private browser (incognito). Here's how:

  • Press Ctrl Shift (Google Chrome)
  • Ctrl Shift (Firefox)
  • Control Option (Safari)

Once signed in, go to the + New button and select the Estimate option to create and save an estimate.

If you're able to do so, return to your default browser and clear its cache. This will refresh the system and remove older data that causes viewing and performance issues. However, if this matter continues, I'd recommend using other supported browsers.

In case the issue continues, even after performing the recommended troubleshooting steps above, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care team. This is to report the behavior and get it fixed in no time.

Also, you can convert your estimates directly into an invoice after your customer accepts them. To do this, you may want to check out this article as your guide: Convert an estimate into an invoice in QuickBooks Online.

Please let me know in the comments if you have other concerns about tracking estimates and sales in QBO. I'm always ready to help. Take care, info1943.
