Google Chrome browsers crash when Quickbooks Desktop Pro Plus 2021 is open

I upgraded my QB Desktop Pro 2018 to Pro Plus 2021 about 1 month ago. I don't open QB unless I have something to do. Within the last week (since I returned to work) whenever I have QB open, anything in Google Chrome crashes as soon as I navigate to a Google Chrome browser window. Currently I am using Windows Edge to type this message since I cannot do so in Chrome. When QB is shut down, no problems with Chrome. I don't know if this is a Chrome issue or a QB issue. Please help. Thank you.

I appreciate your prompt reply and for adding some clarifications, Paula.

I can share some steps on how to fix this issue so you can open your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) flawlessly.

Let's run the Quick Fix my Program from the QuickBooks Tools Hub. This scans your QBDT for errors and quickly resolves them. Let me show you how.

  1. Close your QuickBooks.
  2. Download our QuickBooks Tool Hub
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install.
  5. When the install finishes, open the tool hub on your Windows desktop.
  6. Select Program Problems.
  7. Click Quick Fix my Program.
  8. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

You can also check this link for more details: QuickBooks Desktop doesn't start or won't open.

Once you’re able to open your QuickBooks, I recommend updating it to the latest release to avoid any issues in the future. This way, we can also ensure that your software is up to date with the newest improvements and fixes.

I'm also attaching this link that you can read for reference: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop. This outlines the steps on how to match your bank and QuickBooks balance accurately.

Let me know in the Comment section if you need more help opening your QBDT. I'm just a few clicks away from you. Keep safe and have a good one!

After getting all of our accountants new workstations, now the problem has returned. Getting new reports of Chrome, Outlook, and Excel crashing today on opening company files. No error messages; applications simply crash when you try to open a company file (of which we have many, so they are going in & out of company files frequently).

Chrome lets you restore tabs that were open, but many times Excel won't allow recovering any files that were being worked on. This problem is wasting time and hindering productivity for our user's.

I've been struggling with this issue for over a month with no solution. QB support called me two weeks ago to "investigate" the issue, and I have not heard back. This is getting very old.

I am new to this thread. I am here because I am also experiencing Chrome crashing whenever I switch Quickbooks files. I am using QBDT Accountant 2022 on Windows 11- on a brand new computer. This seems to happen every time, and since I am an accountant, I am switching QB files a lot! This does need fixed and obviously it is not an isolated issue. It is definitely a QuickBooks issue because this only happens when initiating a file change in Quickbooks.

I am having the same issue on a brand new laptop. It is unacceptable and this is classic Intuit- not our problem. My past experience with support has been ridiculous- hours on a call with them and no resolution, so after reading everyone's call in experience I am not inclined to call. When I open a company file or switch between companies, my chrome browser crashes. I use Google Drive to do my work for most of my client's, so this is infuriating. Shame on Quickbooks once again as it appears they just don't care.

I can imagine what you must be going through, @nr1

I'm here to help you fix this crashing issue that you encountered when you access your company file.

Crashing of QuickBooks is usually caused by a damaged component in the program. One way to fix this is to make sure your QuickBooks Desktop is in the latest release. This way, you'll always get our bug fixes and security patches.

If the issue persists, I'd recommend doing a clean install so Windows can fix company file issues.

Here's how:

  1. Search for Control Panel in the Windows Start menu.
  2. Pick Programs and Features or Uninstall a Program.
  3. Choose your version, then click Uninstall/Change and hit Remove

After that, reinstall QuickBooks Desktop. If this didn't fix your issue, I'd recommend following Solution 2 in this article: Clean install QuickBooks Desktop.

If none of this works, our technical support is always welcome to further investigate the issue. Visit this link to get the direct phone number: Contact QuickBooks Desktop Support. I understand that you've talked to one of our support once. In this case, they are the ones who can access your account and can perform a remote session to take a closer look at what's causing this. They can also open a case for you or even escalate this if needed.

Before doing so, please see our support hours guide to ensure they can assist you on time.

Additionally, I've included an article that'll help you learn more about the features offered in the latest version. This helps you know how you can use them to benefit your business: What’s New in QuickBooks Desktop 2022.

Don't hesitate to post again if you have other concerns. Or leave a comment below if you have updates about QuickBooks not working or crashing.

Please READ what's happening:

It's not Quickbooks crashing, it's Chrome, File Explorer or MS 365 Outlook that crash and close when logging into a company file.

It is annoying, it is frustrating, and certainly counterproductive.

You can read through the previous posts in this thread and see what people have tried.  Including your suggestion of uninstall and re-install.  One or more posts mentioned buying brand new computers and still having the same issue pop up.

Calling QB's tech support does nothing.

It's time to find a fix for this.

I have already posted here, but I came here today because now QuickBooks is crashing my Excel as well as Chrome. This is an EVEN BIGGER problem! I see that someone else just posted this as well though.

This needs fixed. This problem is NOT solved as anyone who can read can see. It is a QB/Intuit problem, NOT anyone else. QB is the one crashing all other programs. This needs escalated and resolved!!!

I must say I was relieved when I found out my Chrome crashing was not just me. Sorry you all are experiencing this too but at least I know it is not something I did (Other than upgrade to 22). Put me on the list though. When I (host computer) or my remote users try to send a quote, invoice, sales order etc. in Enterprise, Mfg. Wholesale 2022, Chrome simply disappears off my screen. No error messages, just GONE, POOF. I also noticed yesterday that Notepad was acting funny but did not take good enough mental notes to discuss what happened.

Thank you for joining the thread, @kristinapalm4 and @Sawman70.

Our product engineers are already working on a fix to the crashing issue of Chrome and Outlook. I understand the urgency to get this issue resolved so you can get back to your usual business.

If you haven't yet, I recommend reaching out to our QuickBooks Support Team. This way, they can add your company to the list of affected users and get an update about the resolution status through email. To reach them, you can follow the detailed steps shared by my colleague LieraMarie_A above.

On the other hand, opening two books at the same time is currently unavailable. I know that opening two different companies can help you save time when running payroll for both companies. For now, I suggest submitting feedback directly to our product engineers. They may look into this suggestion and consider adding an option in the future update. To send feedback, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
  2. Go to the Help menu, then select Send Feedback Online and choose Product Suggestion.
  3. Enter your feedback and click Submit.

You may want to run and customize payroll reports on QuickBooks Desktop. This will help you view useful information about your business and employees.

Thank you for your patience while we're working on a fix, @kristinapalm4. Please know that the Community forum is always open to help you again If you have other concerns with QuickBooks. Have a good one.

Hello there, @zulunet. Welcome to the Community.

For the time being, we still have an ongoing investigation about QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2022 causing Excel or Chrome to crash. Rest assured that this issue is being taken care of with utmost urgency. Hopefully, you can get back to business without interruption in no time.

As a workaround, you can go to Excel and set a timer to one minute, so any changes within the last 60 seconds are all that have to be recreated.

In keeping with this, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care team. They can add your account to the list of affected users. This ensures you're in the loop about the investigation's status and its fix. You can provide INV-73950 as your reference. Here's how:

  1. Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Select the Contact Us button.
  3. Enter a brief description of your concern in the What can we help you with? field and click Continue.
  4. Choose a way to connect (Chat or Callback).

Once everything is all set, you may also want to check out one of our Help pages as your reference to guide you in managing your business's growth and transactions using QBDT: QuickBooks Learn and Support. It includes help articles, Community discussions with other users, and video tutorials, to name a few.

We appreciate your patience regarding this matter. Let me know if you have other QuickBooks account management concerns. I'm always here to help. Take care, @zulunet.

Was there ever a resolution to this? It seems the thread ended last year.
