This is BEYOND frustrating. I have never hated a company more than this. I purchased QBD last week and I STILL can't use it. I have QB online and I HATE IT. I cannot get it migrated to desktop. They provide NO HELP. I'm assuming because they want to keep everyone with online. It migrated with NO INFORMATION. I downloaded the migration tool, I did everything the 'instructions' said. It doesn't work. It imports the file as read only and there is NO INFO there. Nothing. Please don't send me the link to the 'instructions'. I have it. It's not helpful. I've called. Repeatedly. No help. They had no issue taking my money for the desktop version though.

I understand how frustrating the migration process is, Windylou.

Let me provide another way to get your data in QuickBooks Online(QBO) to your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

If you have completed all the steps to move your QuickBooks Online data to your QuickBooks Desktop, and then downloaded the file in QBXML format, and used the QBDT migration tool, please note that the process may take some time to complete. If it appears that the tool froze, it does not mean that the export has failed. Kindly wait for a few minutes, the progress bar will move again.

However, if the status bar doesn't appear to move, check your QuickBooks Desktop for an Application Certificate again.

  1. Select the QuickBooks Desktop icon to open it in your Windows Taskbar. You will see the application certificate.
  2. In the Application Certificate, choose Yes, prompt each time.
  3. Click Continue and Done on the confirmation screen.

Moreover, I suggest scanning this article with information regarding commonly asked inquiries about the QuickBooks Desktop Migration: QuickBooks Desktop Migration Tool FAQs

If the issue persists, I recommend contacting our QBDT live support team, as they can access your account in a safe environment and determine the steps needed to be taken in order to resolve this issue.

Furthermore, when exporting data from QBO to QBDT, you may notice distinctions in your books when you export QBO data to QBTD. You can refer to this article to learn more aboutLearn how features and data move from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

Keep me posted if you have more questions about migrating your data from QBO to QBDT. I'll be here to answer them as soon as possible.

I tried to migrate from MAC desktop 2 times today and each time there is a discrepancy between my operating account on the desktop and online.  I spent 2-3 hours talking to representatives who did not speak English well and it was very very frustrating.  Finally, got somebody who spoke English as their first language and the solution was to make a journal entry and to TRUST the system that didn't work to start with?  I have been with Intuit Quick Books for 17 years and they raised the pricing from $650 to $1045 in one year and from $335 in 2021.  They are trying to force migration to the online platform and there are problems.  I feel used and abused as a loyal customer.

Do you have multi currency transactions in QBO?
