Thanks for joining the Community, vhoaboard.

If you e-filed 1099-MISC or 1099-NEC forms through QuickBooks Payroll, you may end up needing to ammend them. Beginning in 2024, you can submit amended 2023 1099 forms through QuickBooks.

For all other years, you'll need to work directly with the IRS to make a manual amendment to your forms. You can use these IRS instructions.

You can check our Correct or change 1099s article for updates on when this feature will be available.

I can certainly understand how an ability to amend 1099s could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today. You can also submit your own feature requests while signed in. Your feedback's definitely valuable to Intuit and will be reviewed by our Product Development team for consideration in future updates. You can check our Product Updates page for news about recent updates.

I'll be here to help if there's any additional questions. Have an awesome day!

Sadly this still leads me back to the same info which is to check back later for instructions on how to do this.  Not helpful when changes need to be made.

Thanks for getting back to us, @vhoaboard.

I can share additional information about making corrections to 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC forms after you e-filed them.

If you are a subscriber of QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Contractor Payments and have already filed your 2023 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC forms, you can submit amended 1099 forms. This option will be available from the beginning of February.

You can correct and e-file your corrected 1099s through QuickBooks by visiting the 1099 filings page. Please note that corrections must be completed before the IRS’s 1099 e-filing deadline. However, there's no option to print and mail corrected 1099s. You'll be the one to print the corrected forms and deliver them to the contractors. Also, corrections aren’t required or supported for wrong addresses.

Please take note of this article to get the instructions when processing corrections for 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC forms: Correct or change 1099s in QuickBooks.

In case you need to file 1099s for your state, see this File your state 1099 forms article for more information.

Let me know if you need more information about making corrections to 1099s. I'm always here to answer them for you. Have a great rest of the day!

Thank you for reaching out to the Community.

Allow me to join the thread to assist you, @dawnjohnson. Let me provide you with some insights into your concern about the amended 1099 in QuickBooks Online.

To begin, we suggested contacting payroll support to help with the filing process of your amended 1099. If the 1099 form was issued with an incorrect ID numeber, it's necessary to reissue it by checking the "Corrected" box and entering the correct amount in Box 1 (Non-Employee Compensation). It's best to get accurate guidance and assistance from payroll support in determining how to fill out the "Corrected" box and zero out the amount. They have the expertise and tools to help you with the process.

Moreover, if you filed the wrong type of 1099 form, or the contractor's name or TIN is wrong, we do the following when we e-file the correction with the IRS:

  1. E-file the original form again:
  • The corrected checkbox is selected on the form.
  • The form will include the original contractor info and TIN.
  • All boxes will be zero dollars ($0).

      2. E-file a new form with the correct info.

Moreover, I'll be sharing the following resources to help you manage your 1099s in QBO:

Feel free to post if you have other concerns or questions with your 1099 or QuickBooks in general. We're here to help you further. Keep safe!

We filed our 2024 1099NEC in January electronically via QBO.

2 Contractors received their IRS mailing and noted that their name was not spelled correctly.

The new rules for 2024 filings are that you can only submit a correction using the same method as the original submission... Meaning we are stuck waiting on QB to make this function possible.

We waited for the "Correction" option to be enabled in February.  It was released last week.  But... You cannot update/change the Name or EIN number yet.  There is a flag saying "Correcting the recipient name or TIN is currently unavailable. We are actively working to enable this feature."

It is now March.  Contractors are calling every day to know when they will receive the corrected filing.  QB must get this function working AASAP as they are well past a 30 day delay in making this work.
