Question

How can I change my business name in the Payroll Settings? When I try to change it I get an error about disabling eServices, but I can't do anything about it.

I get an error about disabling eServices but I don't have any options to actually change my business name. My federal filings are getting rejected because I need to update my business name.

Thanks for taking the time to reach out to us, deldracm. It's important to ensure that the information in QBO matches the registered name you have on file with the IRS.

Allow me to help and make sure you can make any necessary changes without any issues.

Since you're using electronic services for tax payments and filing, you'll need to change it temporarily before changing the name in your payroll settings. Here's how:

  1. Go back to the Gear or Settings ⚙ icon and select Payroll Settings.
  2. Proceed to the Taxes and forms section, then click Edit ✎.
  3. Change the selection to I’ll pay and file the right agencies through their website or by mail.
  4. Select Save, then Done

After that, change your business's legal name once again.

Just in case you're unable to make the changes, please contact our Payroll Support team to update your business name. Here's how to reach out to them:

  1. Click the Help menu in the upper-right-hand corner of QBO.
  2. Proceed to the Assistant tab.
  3. Type in "contact support" in the chat box and press Enter.
  4. Select QuickBooks Online Support, then click Contact Us at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Click Ask about something else, then enter a short description of your concern.
  6. Choose between Have us call you or Chat.
