Welcome to the Community, @arkvalleyinfo. Allow me to help you with changing the Master Admin on your account.

Here's how the Master Administrator when logged into QuickBooks Online can transfer right to an existing Company Administrator:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Manage Users.
  3. Click the drop-down arrow in the Action column and choose Make master admin.
  4. Select Make master admin on the pop-up that appears.
  5. An invitation email will then be sent to the user to accept the role.

I recommend the following article for additional information on this process, such as the basics of transferring this role: How to Transfer The Role of Master Administrator.

Should you have any questions about transferring roles or anything else, I'm just a click away. Cheering you to continued success.

I'll be your guide today in changing your company's Master Admin, nnaziz.

When transferring the Master Admin access, you'll have to ensure that the user is already added as a Company Admin. If not, you can follow these steps to set up the user first:

  1. Click the Gear icon in the upper right-hand corner of the Dashboard.
  2. Under Your Company, click Manage Users.
  3. Click the Add user button in the upper right-hand corner.
  4. Select Company Admin, and then click Next.
  5. Enter the new user's profile information.
  6. Click Save.

Then, let the user check their email to accept the invitation. Once done, you can follow the steps given by my colleague above to successfully transfer the Master Admin rights.

If you need more help with this, just let me know. I'll be around to assist you further.

Hello,

How safe is the Doc Portal used to submit these confidential documents for the Master Admin Claims?

What encryption does it use?

Hi there, @mee12.

Earning your trust and loyalty is at the heart of everything we do every day at Intuit. This includes protecting your information like it’s our own.

Intuit protects the information you sent according to our security policy and encrypts it securely with AES-256 encryption keys. The master key is then used to encrypt the data key. It also never stores unencrypted data to disk and encrypts data in transit using SSL/TLS. Rest assured, we have the security elements in place to give you peace of mind.

For more information on how we protect your account, I recommend you visit the following site: Intuit Online Security Center

Drop me a comment below if you have any other questions. I'll be happy to help you some more.

MirriamM responded to changing the Master Admin, much appreciated thank you; problem is not having luck with it still. Instructions state i can go to Action column for the person I want to transfer Master admin to and click on the small arrow, but the only options I get are "view user activity" or "delete"?

April 16, 2020

Let me guide you through the steps, @bl11.

I’ll make sure you’ll be able to locate the option to change the master admin access.

First, you’ll want to delete that user. Once done, please invite him/her again and make sure to give the user a temporary company admin access. Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then choose Manage Users.
  2. Select Add user.
  3. Choose Company admin under user type.
  4. Enter the user’s name and email address again, then select Save.

Your user will quickly get an email from quickbooks-email@intuit.com. Have your user accept the invite and let him/her select “Let’s go!”. Once done, please refresh your page. Then select the drop-down arrow under Action

I attached a screenshot as your visual reference:

I also added this Help article as your reference moving forward so you can learn more about managing your Quickbooks.

I’m sure you’ll find it helpful, Blas Chacon.

Hey there, @bl11.

Thanks for taking the time to reach out for support here in the Community. I'd be glad to lend a hand with changing the Master Admin.

Before you begin, the person you'd like to assign the role of the new Master Admin must be a current Company Administrator. Once this is done, there are a few steps to change the Master Administrator in QuickBooks Online. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon in the top right corner.
  2. Select Manage Users.
  3. Locate the user you'd like to transfer Master rights to.
  4. Choose to Make master admin from the drop-down.
  5. Choose to Make master admin once more to confirm.
  6. An email invitation will be sent to this person. They will need to accept the invite to become the new Master Administrator.

I've got an article for you that explains how to add a new Company Administrator if the individual isn't already, and more details on the transfer process. You can check it out here: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/community/Account-management/How-to-transfer-the-role-of-Master-Admini.

I'm only a post away if you need anything else about QuickBooks. Have a great day.

Thank you for your reply.

The issue I have is that, when you drop the arrow on the Action column, I only get the option to "view activity" or "delete", I do not get the option to transfer the Master Admin.

Change master administrator

September 25, 2020

Hello there, @john1992.

Allow me to share some information about changing the master admin role in QBO.

As mentioned by my peer above, changing the master admin role on the account will depend on who's paying the subscription to Intuit.

In the meantime, If your accountant is the one paying the subscription, you can contact them. This way, he/she can assist you to transfer the Master Admin rights of your account.

However, if the master admin is no longer available. You can follow the steps provided by my colleague Joesem M on how to contact our support team. They can submit the Master Admin Transfer request for you.

Also, to familiarize yourself with the different user types available in QBO, see this article for details: User types in QuickBooks Online. it contains a list of every type of user you can add in QBO, along with a short description of their roles.

Other questions in mind? Let's hear them out. Drop a comment below, and I'll get back to you.

MY ADMNISTRATOR WHICH IS MY CPA PUT HERSELF AS THE MASTER ADMIN AND ME AS A USER, BUT NEVER SENT ME AN INVITATION TO BE A USER AND NOW I CANT GET IN TOUCH WITH HER TO CHANGE IT, BUT THE PAYMENT FOR QUICKBOOKS IS COMING OUT OF MY BANK ACCOUNT. SO HOW CAN I CHANGE THIS IF I CANT GET IN TOUCH WITH MY OLD CPA?

@RAAZ

Need to clarify this. Did you give your credit card credential to your CPA to open QBO account for the first time and pay the monthly subscriptions to date?

December 1, 2022

I am changing accounting firms. I gave notice to the existing firm. They shut down my QB online account in like 5 minutes. I am locked out of payroll and the firm says that since they shut down my account that they cannot access my account. I cannot change the Master admin because the former accounting firm's accountant is still listed as primary admin. My action for my user type is limited to view user activity and I cannot delete the accountant because I am still listed as the Admin user type. This is utterly frustrating. Your help is appreciated.

@VMHS23

If your QBO account is still active and your current Primary Admin refuses to transfer the role to your end, Intuit will not help resolve your dispute. As long as you can access your account as a Company Admin, you can migrate your data manually or purchase a third party service to do so.

I am no longer the treasurer and need to remove my name and add new contract and primary users name
