How can I remove credit card and bank accounts from QB that were added in error?

If you're trying to remove the credit card and bank account from the Chart of Accounts, you can inactivate them.

 

To delete an account, here’s what you’ll need to do:

 

  1. Click on the gear icon at the top.
  2. Under Your Company section, select Chart of Accounts (COA).
  3. Look for the account that you want to delete.
  4. In the Action column, choose the drop-down then click Delete.
  5. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete.

it does'nt show me the 'delete' option, in either view (bookkeeper's view OR accountant's view) i have the basic package.

Thanks for joining the thread and letting us know about this, @JB-007. I'd like to inform you that the steps to delete an account have been updated.

 

In QuickBooks Online, we can delete the account from the Chart of Accounts by making it inactive. But before doing so, you can reach out to your accountant to ensure this change is right for you.

 

Once you're ready, you can follow the steps below: 

 

  1. Go to Settings ⚙ and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Find the account you want to delete.
  3. Select the Action ▼ dropdown and click Make inactive.

How can remove my bank account

Let's work together and remove your bank account, MARJU.

 

If you're only trying to remove an account from Chart of Accounts (COA), you can make it inactive. Just make sure this account is never used and its balance is 0. Here's how you could do it.

 

  1. Go to the Accounting menu.
  2. In the Chart of accounts tab, find the bank account you want to eliminate.
  3. Select the Action dropdown arrow and select Make inactive. 

 

On the other hand, if you're trying to remove your bank account from the bank feed, you can follow the steps below. Before doing so, please note that information below.

 

  • QuickBooks deletes transactions that still need to be categorized in the For review tab. 
  • If the transactions are older than 90 days, you won't be able to download them into QuickBooks again.

 

Then, here's how to disconnect an account from online banking:

 

  1. Go to the Banking menu.
  2. In Banking tab, select the tile for the bank account.
  3. Pick the pencil icon, then select Edit account info.
  4. Select the Disconnect this account on save checkbox. 
  5. Hit Save and Close.
